    What actually drives website cost

Most of the difference between a $3,000 site and a $30,000 site is not the number of pages. It is the number of unique templates that have to be designed, and how much of the work is original content rather than layout.

A forty-page site built from five templates is far cheaper than a ten-page site where every page is bespoke. When you compare quotes, ask how many distinct templates are included — it explains most of the spread, and few proposals state it plainly.

The second driver is integrations. A contact form is trivial. A form that writes to your CRM, triggers a sequence, and reconciles against your billing system is a software project wearing a form's clothing. Scope these explicitly rather than letting them arrive as change requests.

The third is content. Agencies quoting "client provides copy" are quoting a smaller project than agencies including copywriting. This single line item routinely accounts for thousands of dollars of apparent price difference between two otherwise identical proposals.
